C’est précisément le 21 novembre 1783, à 13 h 54, depuis le château de la Muette à Paris, que le Dauphin de France et sa suite ont pu assister, stupéfaits, au premier vol d’humains en ballon.

Un vaste rassemblement du 11 au 13 novembre

La nacelle, occupée par Pilatre de Rozier et le marquis d’Arlempdes, a atteint les 960 mètres d’altitude et survolé la ville sur une dizaine de kilomètres. Un exploit qui a marqué les esprits.

Deux cents ans plus tard, afin de commémorer le bicentenaire de cet évènement, un vaste rassemblement s’était tenu, du 11 au 13 novembre 1983, initié par Jean Boudignon, président des montgolfières de la Haute-Loire et Maurice Chaize, vice-président de la Fédération française d’aérostation, à l’époque.
